joins us live with more on the captain's condition and the damage to that apartment complex. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. i just spoke with the captain on scene here in san jose and he said that that firefighter will be kept overnight for observation. he said that he was hurt when falling sheetrock actually hit him, but i wanted to show you what the scene looks like here this morning. a crew is still here on fire watch. they're telling me there is concern about the stability of the building from the fire and all the water that they actually poured on it overnight. this is a three-alarm fire that displaced 18 people. a firefighter just told me when they got heres are flames were huge. they were pouring out of the building and most residents were already outside, but it damaged six units. two of them completely uninhabitable. it took them three hours to knock this down. residents in neighboring units had to evacuate while this was going on. captain ron brown just told us how that firefighter, a 16-year veteran, got hurt. >> it turns out that their initial d

. san rafael police tell us the shooting took place just before 1:00 a.m. here. there was a huge crowd in the parking lot when they arrived. officers say two men were hit by bullets. those men were transported to marin general hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. police have detained two other men at this point they are still trying to determine if and how they were involved. >> i can tell you as far as i have heard it sounds like this started as a physical altercation inside the club that may have spilled out into the parking lot. which culminate into shots being fired. >> reporter: police found several weapons on the scene. lieutenant told us there was another shooting here back in actually. that shooting was fatal. meanwhile investigators expect to be out of here for most of the morning. san francisco boulevard right now between anderson and 101 freeway will remain closed for a few more minutes. this parking lot will be closed for several hours. reporting live in san rafael lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. >>> time now 5:04. police in richmond investigating a second deadl

, charles, thanks for that. again, charles clifford checking in for us. traffic seeming to move right along. >> all right. we're tracking traffic as well here. check out the speeds on the map. you can see where charles was on the bay bridge. there are slow eastbound speeds. look at a closer look. speeds of 0 to 25 miles per hour heading eastbound on the bay bridge. the problem starts here on 101, an accident near fifth street you can here heading to marin into san francisco can be a little bit problematic as speeds are slow there. 880, 580 in the east bay look good and continue to track the traffic this thanksgiving to and from their destinations. >> and tonight, we showed you the plaza. where are we starting? fast track moving good with no problems. golden gate bridge, traffic moving well northbound and southbound no back-up for those heading over for their thanksgiving dinner. the san mateo bridge, see what they look like. san mateo bridge, no problems there. the traffic medium speeds moving well. no problems and you just heard from grant with an update on what was happening trafficwise.

. elissa, tell us about this new marketing strategy. >> reporter: j.c. penney wasn't even supposed to open until 6:00 this morning but opened an hour early at 5:00. you can see shoppers inside. some of the competitors opened as early as yesterday to offer deal seekers door buster sales. j.c. penney has a different business model. they are all about low prices every day. the new ceo ron johnson eliminated sales and coupon deals to try to change the way america shops. sales dropped by 26%. the company also posted a $123 million loss last quarter. still, they are sticking to their guns. they are, however, having this black friday sale. they are calling their only sale weekend of the year but they didn't want to overlap into thanksgiving. they decided they were not going to open until today. usually they open at 4 a.m. on black friday. they opened an hour later. i spoke with some shoppers waiting for the doors to open. >> it's a little late an everyone is probably really tired and they won't have that much money because they have been spending it other places. >> reporter: j.c. penney is also
